|
|
Hi,
This is a question I posed under "Nutrition" not realizing I wasn't in the Prostate Cancer section. I would love to hear any thoughts any of you may have on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer recently. He will likely have surgery in October.
We are doing a lot of changes with his diet and related matters - aiming to maximize his outcome and recovery.
I have read a lot about cow's milk and related products being tied to prostate cancer and the need to cut it out, as it will help the cancer grow. Makes sense to me given the high sugar content, high fat, growth hormones and other garbage, and the acidic nature of cow's milk.
I know that Goat's milk has less sugar, has more digestible fats, is more nutritious, easier for people to digest, does not have the growth hormones etc... and is actually alkaline in nature.
What I am wondering is if anyone has any experience with substituting goat milk for cow milk to help with prostate cancer.
I know we could look at organic soy or brown rice milk but my father does not like either of them. He would prefer the goat milk.
Does anyone have information about goat milk and prostate cancer?
Thanks,
Daughter7 |
I recently switched to soy milk on my cereal. Not a huge fan of soy milk, but I've always had a gut that reacted kinda poorly to cow's milk, and now my colon got a touch of radiation, it really doesn't like it. Bloating, bubbling gut..not fun.
No problem with soy milk--all's quiet down south. I have found the Silk brand vanilla flavored milk to be okay on cereal. The vanilla hides some of that soy taste. It doesn't taste like milk, so you have to mentally adjust for that.
I've read that soy is best for cereal, but rice milk is tastier to drink. That might be an option for your dad. Or what about organic hormone-free cow's milk?
Or no milk at all....adults don't need to consume milk. We can get plenty of calcium from other dietary sources.
My 7 year old likes goat milk--not sure how much he REALLY likes it, or if it's more to gross out his older siblings. I don't know much about it other than that. The nutrition label doesn't look much different to me than cow's milk--still get a large amount of saturated fat and cholesterol.
I think the jury is still out on milk and prostate cancer. A recent study looked at nearly 300,000 men over 6 years. There was no statistically relevant correlation between calcium intake or Vitamin D and prostate cancer (both of which had been proposed) but there WAS a slight link between consumption of NONFAT milk and advanced prostate cancer. They also found that WHOLE milk consumption actually REDUCED the risk of advanced prostate cancer a small degree!
Along these lines, you might want to look into pomegranate juice, since a small study showed that it slowed PSA doubling times.
Good luck. _________________ Replicant
As far as I know, dairy products are not benefitial for prostate cancer patients. Soy milk could be a solution, but a nutritionist can say if it is too high in fat or not. Think that your father likes yogurt.
Please visit this page
You should also consider mediterranean diet
as many studies concluded that people living around Mediterranean Sea have a low risk to develop cancerous tumors. _________________ men health questions
I agree that you're wise to address life style issues which can usually be greatly improved.
Cows milk is just one example of processed food consumed now which contains large amounts of trans fats, saturated fat, and countless additives so that our food is vastly inferior to that consumed a few generations ago.
The links "interval" provided are interesting and my diet is similar to the examples given.
I have little if any dairy product in the form of milk or cream, processed food containing trans fats or high sugar foods.
I do include foods high in antioxidants, along with immune boodsing foods and supplements.
Have found that pomegranate juice Replicant mentioned improves urinary function.
Dr Mercola has a lot of information on his website about these issues, along with the use of antibiotics which is obviously a consideration with surgery.
Best wishes. |
