| I'm looking for advice, last week I had my yearly exam as I do every year even though I'm only 27. 2 days ago the dr called me back and told me that my pap was abnormal and that a HPV test came back positive for high risk HPV. Now the problem is that I'm a photojournalist and I'm leaving the country next week for my very first book project. The Dr seemed really admit that I come in before I leave on Tuesday or Wednesday for a Colposcopy and possibly a biopsy and they even rescheduled some other appointments to get me in tomorrow. My Dr is leaving town on Saturday and won't be back until after I leave. I will be in the 3rd world until August shooting for a nonprofit. Well my period started this evening so I called and left a message for my physicians assistant and her nurse called me back and told me that they can't do it if they can't see the cervix. She told me it's not a big deal and to just wait until I come back in 2 or 3 months and come in then. However I don't know that I can live 2 or 3 months with that hanging over my head. Even if the test results were not good I would rather know while I'm working or be free from the concern. My question now is I didn't cancel the anointment since it was just the assistants nurse that called me. I think that tomorrow I will instead take a bath or clean up really well right before I go and since it's only day 2 the bleeding shouldn't be much at all. Is there any reason that they can't simply rinse it off when they apply the solution to the cervix if I show up and there is any blood on it? If that just won't work maybe I can get in with another Dr before I go or something. Can anyone tell me if you guys think it's urgent to get this done before I go or if it's not a big deal and 3 months time won't make a difference anyway as the nurse said. Also are there going to be changes in my cervix because on menstruation that will make the test impossible anyway? Any info anyone can give me would be great! Thanks |

izabellaleah,
The best thing you can do is talk directly to your DR.
My advice is don't leave it. The Cancer cells in that area move very quick- as most cancers. Having a high risk- is different than cancerous cells- but i take it as the same.
Have a read of my story- in my signature. Read the first few post and you'll see that in a matter of 3 days a huge difference in size. Then after the coloposcopy i waited a week at most for surgery. Then a massive change.
So I wouldn't wait. Though like a said a high risk is different. Just trust your Dr If you feel you can, but mostly yourself. If you can't get it done by her- than someone she can reccommend.
Sometimes we have to put our bodies and ourself, above others.
Thinking of you- Let us know how you go. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

I called the clinic and they told me they can't do it when I'm having my period. The Dr who is leaving town in the only dr at that clinic (small town) that can preform the coloscopy and she is leaving tomorrow so there was nothing I could do until July 8th.
I called another local clinic and they set me up with an appointment for Monday evening and my periods are short it should be done by tomorrow so Monday evening is great. They needed a referal so I called me Dr and she faxed one to me to take with me. That sheet also said that I had ASCH pap and high risk HPV. The clinic also said that they can email me my test results since I will be out of the country when they come back. I intend to go back to my regular Dr when I return but I wanted at least this test done before I go so I know something, anything, about what's going on.
I'll update on Monday night or Tuesday about what they say at the coloscopy, who knows maybe I'll get good new while I'm gone instead of bad news. |

| I glanced through your posts, but wanted to tell you that I am almost two years out of surgery for stage I cervical cancer (August 4th is anniversery). I asked my doctor to wait as my Grandma was in hospice and dying of ovarian cancer (uterus, stomach, lung and liver at that stage) when I was diagnosed. My surgery was 4 months after my colposcopy showed the cancer and every follow up has been clear. The best part...I only had my cervix removed and endometrial ablation (I have a very pro woman doctor which I love!). I feel confident that there will be no recurrence...September is my tell all appointment! I have been having biopsies every 3 months, but if this one is clear, they bump me to 6. I am confident it will be! I was HPV negative which I heard is worse than being positive as they know how to deal with those strains. My conclusion is that you will be MORE than fine!! Slow progressing cancer and one of the most curable...that's right I said curable!! You will be fine! |

izabellaleah,
I'm so glad you took the inative and organised things so you can have everything done before you go. It's great they can send you the results. Can you also call and get the results explained to you- or via e-mail if you have to.??
Good Luck- I will be thinking of you. (i was told a light bleed would be ok- so if you are nearlly at the end- then figers crossed you'll be ok.)
kisses and big (((((hugs)))))) to you. Let us know when you can. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

So I wasn't impressed with this Dr that did the coloscopy I don't know if I'm just really picky or if it's hard to find a good dr you can really feel comfortable with.
Anyway did the coloscopy she said there was 1, no 2, no 1, no 2, no 1 area she was going to biopsy at the 7o'clock spot. So I wasn't comfortable with her not biopsying both areas but at least she did do the one area.
Then she said it looks like mild to moderate dysplasia from what she can tell and if the biopsy comes back ok she thinks I could just go back to a yearly pap test. Except I wanted to shout I have HPV which means I should come back in 3 months, but I just said fine and let her leave the room. I don't intend to make her my dr or see her again after my trip so it doesn't matter really as long as she did this biopsy and I can get those test results to take to another dr when I get home. |

At least it's done to a degree, and see what that reslult comes back- when you get back- then see your 1st dr again and get her to follow through. _________________ Thinking of you Inica
