Hi, Im a new member here. I found this website by doing some research on melanoma.

About two weeks ago, I had a biopsy on a mole because it itched. I had no idea that cancer could even form a on a mole. The good news is that it came back benign but the Dr. said I should keep on eye on it because it showed mild atypia(which I have no idea what it means). He only cut a piece out and said he would remove the rest when necessary but it scabbed and pushed itself out. Now there is only a scar there. Is this normal? It still itches.

Anyways that was only part of my story. Ever since, I have developed a phobia on always checking my moles. I have found several moles that I am scared about. I have one on my left thigh that is perfectly circular but is really black. It doesnt look right. The more concerning one is on the same leg but on my chin. This mole is a funny color. I can see where the mole starts but it "fades" going to the right. The problem is I dont know how long these have been like this.

Its really scary. I cant sleep at night because I assume the worse. I have no appetite and have no concentration at school. I am a 22 yr old college student who is getting married next month. I have an 18 month old daughter that is the world to me.

Can there be a healthy reason why my moles look like this? I am going back to the Dr. to get them checked out. Please, any information will really help me. Thank you and God Bless.

Hey Duff

Best thing you can do is to see a Dermatologist.

They check out every mole and spot on your body. And I do mean "EVERY" spot on your body. Shocked

No time to be bashful.

Doesn't really make sense to worry about something until you truly have something to worry about.

Get checked out and set your mind at ease Smile

Hi Duffman. I am very sorry about your health concerns. It is NOT by any means uncommon for what looks like a mole to turn into a skin cancer... even if the person has had it for many years.

"mild atypia" just means that the cells were slightly different from normal skin cells... also not uncommon. But you do need to keep an eye on that scare. If it changes color or start bleeding or discharging any kind of fluid, you need to take action.

In the mean time, you do not need to be paranoid about this or any other mole... just watchful like anyone else.

Sometimes scares do itch until they are fully healed. Just continue to work with your own medical team.
